Quote: Even if you're disgusted by the coin and don't want it around it's pretty easy to get a premium for it. People were using nic-a-date and circuit board goop on nickels long before either of us heard about the Interwebs. We may think of ccf auctions or ebay as being easy, but most collectors don't.

Send them (those collectors) to me. I'll buy their acid-dated keys. Can't get much easier than that.

OK, maybe I'm out of the loop. Whats a fair % of G retail for acid dates?

Exciting news; the set is complete! I'm on vacation visiting my brother, and he pulled out the coins we collected as kids. Among them was his collection of Buffalo nickels, a bunch of loose and most of a set (including all the later dates) in an old Whitman folder that was falling apart. He had the last six dates I needed and was willing to trade them for some of the early keys he was missing. We'll still need to work out the details of the rest of the trade, but the important part is, I now have a complete date/mintmark set of Buffalo nickels. The challenge is not over, however. I'm still over budget by almost $50, and will need to sell off my surplus to meet the terms. There's all kinds of other cool stuff in the old collection. I had a big collection of Indian Head cents, so I'm going to have to go through those and see what's there. We've got all sorts of random stuff we got out of the coin dealer's "junk" box cheaply. It's mostly culls and holed coins, but there's Seated Liberty coins, barbers, Half Dimes, 3 cent silvers and nickels - great stuff!
