Adam, I hope you have already talked to someone in authority by now since it was suggested earlier. There is no reason why you should have to put up with that sort of behaviour. If the adults in charge of the seminar don't know there's a problem they won't be able to help. Someone else mentioned those kids were probably sent by their parents, and that's probably true - it's obvious they are not there for the same reasons you are. We're all so proud (and you should be, too) of what you've accomplished so far - don't let them drag you down. Stand tall, Adam! We're rooting for you

Adam? Can you tell us what's up? Are you going to update us on the classes you take? Like today, for example? Are you still there? You still have my number? Call me if you need to talk.

That sounds a little more like what we were expecting to hear! 80% on grading - that's pretty awesome!

I am so glad to hear you are finally able to enjoy your time there, just remember everyone has bad days but its the ones that keep pressing on through those days that get to enjoy the good days, the ones that quit, all they will ever remember is the bad ones because they never get to experience the good ones

Well said Bryan! When you look back on all of this Adam, not only will you remember the good stuff, but the good stuff will be knowledge that will last you a lifetime!

Congratulations Adam! We are very proud of you In life, you are going to bump in to all walks of life including immature, immoral people like you bumped into. That's just what we have to navigate around some times. I am 41 years old and I still have immature co-workers tease me about coins and numismatics in general...it's jealousy and immaturity plain and simple. Stay the course, keep your chin up, and after you leave the Summer Seminar, you will have some terrific knowledge to bring home with you. Have fun and stay safe

Well done, Adam! I am glad everything is working out for you now. I wish it never happened to you and it may have been painful, but it will help you grow. Yes, I know this from my own experience.

Glad you stayed. Ironically, I was probably less than a mile from you, as I was in the Springs for a radio club convention and also found some great deals on coins at three of the coin shops in town (and spent way too much money on them). Bullies are everywhere. My advice is not to insulate yourself from them, but to stand up to them, and - as others have suggested - to contact the local ANA directors to deal with them. As one who was bullied as a rather small child and even as an adult, I came to realize that the only deal with bullies is to stand up to them, even if you get knocked down temporarily. You don't have to play their game, either, and calling in stronger and higher authorities for your defense is an excellent strategy. I'm glad that you're staying at the conference and continuing to learn.

Adam, while you don't really know me, I can assure you the behaviour of those people is not sanctioned or promoted by the ANA I joined. Many times youthful exuberance clouds young peoples minds when away from home and not supervised. I can only echo what advise was already given; stay the course, stand up for your beliefs with conviction, and involve a higher authority.

When I was a runt third grader, I was constantly picked on.
One day at recess, I had a bully in my face (actually, a head higher than me) and 4-5 of his buddies around us.
To this day, I can't tell you what happened. I blanked out, and when I came to, I was standing, the bully was flat on the ground, roughly at the same level as his buddies' jaws.
All I know for sure is I was never bothered again.

Adam, I wish I was there! That sounds like a great summer and I'm sure you will learn so much. Here is a funny story about bullying that my neighborhood friends family had to deal with.
My friends little brother kept getting bullied by someone at school. He came home crying to his father who was a bit of a mans man so to speak. He told his son that the next time he was getting bullied by this person he should just pop him in the nose with a quick punch. The very next day my friends little brother was sent home from school for hitting a girl.
Not the best advice, but everyone here seems to be giving great advice and I hope you enjoy the opportunity you have been given. So many people including myself would like to be in your shoes right now.

ADAM-E Sorry to hear you are having a problem or two at the ANA Summer Seminar. Bullying should not be tolerated at all. Have you reported the incident(s)? How can this ANA Governor help? YN's are what the Seminar is all about because they are the future of the hobby. DO let me know what's happening. I'm on your side and wish to become your friend/mentor. Cheer up all is not lost.
