Hey guys,

A little while ago I found what appeared to be a double rim on a 2008 5c piece, didn't think too much of it and put it a folder. This week, however, I've been noodling for a 1972 5c (found one so far out of $80 worth of coins), while searching though the coins I noticed this double rim again.

Its not massively common but a fair number of the 2008 5c have at least a double rim on one side of the coin, with some having on both sides. Was just wondering what would cause this and how scarce the error is regarded as being.

Any help would be great!

Hi, can you post a pic of the coins that you are talking about.

My first guess is that you might be describing an off centre mistrike/broadstrike which can happen some times.

Heres a pic from an ended ebay listing

And a previous coin community topic

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the reply, here is an ebay listing of the error:

The coin on the right has the 'double rim', its pretty visible on both sides on this coin. Some of the coins I've found are more pronounced than this one, I'll try post some pics this evening.

Its not quite an off centre coin but there is defiantly something strange going on.
