I am currently the Receiving Manager at a big-box retail location. That is going to change very soon; it's time for a spirit quest.

At present I'm working in a warehouse. But I get to quit that job in July. Going to move then and start my PhD program in August. So, student.

Hmmmmm... I guess I missed this thread by about a month when it was first making the rounds.
I'm pretty white collar, I guess. I went to law school and passed the bar, but due to a variety of factors (including the poor economy at the time) I never actually ended up practicing law. I bounced around for awhile, but currently I head up the Technical Writing department for a major medical software company. I do the documentation for two of our largest products and manage a team of five other writers who work on other products.
I used to work at a regular office, but a couple of years ago the company was bought out by another company and the office where I worked was closed down. They asked me to relocate, but the options were either to a real podunk town of 7,000 in a different state or else to another country entirely. I finally convinced them that they really needed me, so we agreed on a third option and I have been working out of my basement ever since.
I actually prefer the face-to-face human contact you get with a real office, but I have to admit that the commute is very nice. Plus, I have a young son in grade school now and it's so nice to be able to pick him up and drop him off without having to worry about getting there in time. The big downside, of course, is that I never truly "leave the office" and, as a result, I am expected to solve problems anytime day or night that they might arise...

Barry, I agree, I have been lucky/cursed enough to have had the opportunity of "working from home" for the past several years now as well. People tend to envy it, however, I too would prefer the face-to-face contact. While it was initially a HUGE challenge, I actually had to trick myself into the daily jumpstart by pretending I worked at Starbucks and the gym every morning, and needed to report there by 8am, just to get the day going LOL. Once that was successful, I was able to ease into working from home and the field. I do however, travel a lot for work, and attend various meetings, so I am not really sitting home every day, BUT, it has allowed me to post on coincommunity at 11:09am EST. HAHAHA.

Count me in the lucky/cursed enough to work from home. Love it and hate it at the same time.

Correction:
Engineers = 1.042 x 10^3
Others = 8 x 10^0
Please use scientific notation for those of us who are engineers.

in chrono order... student, housepainter, bum, truss builder, bum, courier, and then finally for the past year I've been working for a local gold/coin shop. I set up at all the local coin shows... moral of the story being a bum can eventually pay off...

Engineers ...
=> man, we don't exactly have a super cool rep, do we? ... ummm, have you guys kinda noticed that?
Example => If I was ever gonna try role-playing with my wife, I'm pretty sure that I'd pick:
cowboy cop doctor fireman
... before I'd snap-into my Engineer-Mode
=> "Hey baby, you're lookin' good ... looks like you've lost (15 x 10^0) pounds, ya sexy thang"
Man ... we've gotta work on that!!

I am a former computer programmer, former IT administrator, currently a Product Manager/Support Engineer for an in-house developed multipurpose telephony product.
