GO, I would most likely turn them down also. Something like counting a huge load of coins 3 times over would just slow things down considerably and be a waste of energy and patience. It wouldn't be practical at all paying in so many coins.

My thought too. Guess that somebody who goes there, and then wants to pay with a whole bunch of pennies, does so only to make a statement. Most customers would at least not complain about their policy of rounding down. ;)

As I said, there are several places in my area that refuse to deal with "pennies" (cents) and will round their prices down. "Keep them, they are too much trouble." I still have to wait in line at these places, so evidently business is good.  |

Having a business if someone came in to pay with a wheelbarrow full of pennies I'd accept it, but only cause I'd w ant to search 'em!

As I said, lots of free publicity. Look how many right here are looking into this, commenting on it, viewing this post, talking to others about this and all free publicity.
I'm sure if anyone came into that place and wanted to buy something for $104.83 and gave him exact amount, he would just take it. Possilby in a store where there is tons of buisness all day long they might refuse pennies but in a ike Store? Yeah, right like he has tons of people in there all day. Actually I wonder how many people go there just to see if he refuses a purchase that requires pennies. And those would be the ones that read or heard this so they went to a place they never would have except for the publicity.

If he is like the one place in town I mentioned, he would take the $104.80 and say "you can keep these" as he handed back the Three Cents. Of course, I have never been to this store, let alone try to this "exact change" scenario. I could be wrong.  |

It always starts in California. As a collector I don,t like the cent\penny going away. As a consumer I think it may happen. The bike business is probably a less complicated transaction type to do this than many other businesses?

just keep back the silver and copper! BTW, I spend more than 2.4 hours a year messing with pennies. heck, I spend more than that per day! |

Could all the stores that banned pennies send them to the Coin Community Forum for us to search out the treasures, don't worry we'd return the ones we didn't want to the banks...and NO selling any on ebay :-) |

By the time the CA Granola's are done you'll need a Hazardous Waste permit to melt your penny stash... Example: The melt value of a pound of pre 1982 Copper cents will be $7.24 and the fee for the hazardous waste and cancer causing ingredients of it will be.. oh.. lets say $7,23 per pound...  |

The average bank teller can't lift $25 of cents with one hand, so how could a kid wheel around a couple hundred in coin? This kid is huge.

I wonder what kind of response a store would get if they advertised that they do all buisness in Pennies only. Might work in a Dollar store. Also, might get a lot of people going there that normally wouldn't. Best part of this possibility is if the store owner was a coin collector.  |
