Hey all,
I was wonder what scale is good for weighing your coins. I would need something with at least a .01 G accuracy. I live in Vancouver Canada so if you could let me know where to pick it up as well. This will also be used for weighing gold and silver objects, probably not more then a few ounces.
thanks

many varieties available on ebay. think about how and where you will be using the thing. I have a small one about the size of a pack of cigs. 500g max. .1g sensitivity. weighs a couple ounces. goes wherever I go. runs on 2 AAA batteries. cost $15. works well for most of the things I weigh, but..... a hassle when I am trying to weigh a load of sterling silverware, because I have to balance the stuff across a 2" x 2" scale surface. and I have to weigh the stuff in multiple batches. with a .1 sensitivity, I have a max error of .05g from the rounding. no big deal for silver. the gold rounding could be as much as a $25 miss at $1550 /oz. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a "tare" feature, where you can place a container on the scale while scale is off, and scale will zero out when you turn it on. Scale knows to subtract the weight of anything on scale when it is turned on, and registers at zero. I carry a little plastic bowl in my briefcase, so I can weight 50 little items at once.

Actually, I just purchased one off ebay yesterday. I needed one for coins, and this thing can measure in troy ounces as well for all your gold and silver. It cost just under $10, and it can measure 0.01g to 300g. It ships from Hong Kong just like everything else on ebay, and won't get here forever. But when I get it I'll let you know how it is.

I use the 250-gram AMS pocket scale from wizardcoinsupply, about $20 I recall, very handy

I looked at the AMS model, it seems that the scale's precision is at 0.1g not 0.01g as skwca wanted. I've had great use and precision on the one I bought from Harbor Freight Tools for about $13. SAFE Designer Touch Screen Scale
I saw one model at WSco that was about $115.

I had a AWS brand 0.1g 500gram scale which served me well for 3+ years, I took it on many trips nationally and internationally until I dropped it from about 5 feet up. I decided it was the perfect oppurtunity to upgrade to a 0.01g so bought this one ebay # 200428737110 AMW SM-501 Jewelry Scale 500g x 0.01g ct ozt dwt BLUE for about $35.00. I also got a 500gram calibration scale for about $15. The only thing I miss is having a flip up cover style versus this one that's just a magnetic cover that you have to completely remove each time. The other brand I know is popular is digiweigh. All I need now is a good digital caliper and my coin kit is ready.

I purchased one from Walmart. I step on it, weigh myself, place some coins in my hands and re-weigh myself and subtract the difference. I too wanted such a 0.01 Gram scale some time back and looked for a long time. Then I found a jewlery supply house and got one there for about $20. No postage, handling, insurances, etc. Of course with the price of gasoline today, I wouldn't suggest driving around looking for such places. Odd thing is when I first got that one, I tried it out on all sorts of coins, put it away and never touched it since.

I bought mine on ebay (similar to the one in the link above). It was a "BIN" from China. I received it in less than a week. I won it on Sunday and received it on Friday.

I use the DigiWeigh DW-100AS. It has only 100 gram capacity, but the accuracy is to 0.01 grams. I chose accuracy over the amount of weight it can hold. Because I weigh single coins, I will never really even need the full 100 gram capacity. You can pick this up for $20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-100-x-0...em2566ff6f0e
