I just went through my records of the Silver Proof American Eagles I bought over the last few years at the U.S. Mint. 2005/2006 I paid $ 27.95 each. At the time I thought about buying them in 10 or 20 coin orders and scrapped the thought because at the time $27.95 was steep for these things. I didn't buy any for a few years until recently, when I paid $59.95 Yes, I will stop crying, soon... maybe...

Actually, now that all ASE's are above $45 (silver @ $43.60 as of time of this post), 2011 Proof ASE's from the Mint for $59.95 each doesn't seem that bad. I mean, if I'm going to have to pay $50+ to get any ASE, it may as well be a newly-minted Proof. So on APMEX they are selling a 1986 ASE for $58.75. I'm guessing that's a pretty good price?

Probably a bad time to be buying. It's certainly a sellers market right now, as people cash in on the hype. ebay seems a good way over spot and paying $58+ for an ounce of silver may be a good way to tie up some serious cash for a long time. I am not feeling crazy enough to keep playing.

I used to say that coin collectors are crazy to pay thousands of dollars for something as small as a mintmark.
Then I realized I depended on them for my living.

I just wonder what will happen to all those prices if Silver should drop again. It happened before so could happen again.

From what I know most people who buy the Proof ASE do so because they like to collect them and not for bullion so any drop in price won't hurt unless you bought a LOT of proofs now and they drop like $20+, then I guess a little cry could be in order. but, that's how it goes in coin collecting. Also, if silver DOES drop substantially then it will only help those of us that collect them as the price for ASE will come down.

Not having monitored the Proof ASE prices (I am a sporadic buyer @ the U.S. Mint) I have no clue if the prices would/ could be reduced in case Silver dropped. These days, it seems as if the price goes up for anything, it usually stays up, even if the PM in it loses value. I love the coins and value them in my more in my collection than for the PM value in them. Nevertheless, it's nice to see something bought for less than 30 dollars appreciate in value just because the metal in it is worth more. Those who sell the UNC ASE's are surely having a field day right now, especially if selling them by/ out of the Monster Box.

Quote: American Proof Eagles suspended due to price increases... LOL! The Proof 2011 ASE's are back on sale as of today.... Now priced at $68.45 each! All of us who bought them at $59.95 have now (in effect) "saved" $8.50 per coin. Quote: How crazy do you feel? Not quite as crazy as the "bag lady" rambling down the street warning us all about the aliens, but then again she isn't buying silver...
