Very nice token. The pics are a bit dark for my old tired eyes, but my guess would be in the SF-AU range. I believe it to be a Fuld 164/312. Congrats

Thanks for the reply Penny Guy. I believe you are correct in all points the seller listed it as an F-164/312 in AU.

You're off to a good start, 1900Indian. This patriotic token looks XF, perhaps better to this oldtimer.
Problem-free, VF and better CWT's tend to hold their value better.

Back in the early 1980's, the common CWT's in XF could be had in the $6-$8 range. Wholesale value is now twice that. I expect that the market for these will heat up even more as we've just entered the sesqui-centennial year for the Civil War and more folks are becoming enamoured with the history of that era.

Your CWT was made by the Scoville Manufacturing Company of Waterbury Connecticut. They issued a wide variety of tokens, including ones from the Hard Times era. There's quite a history behind this company that once burned down and was later rebuilt. One of their more popular and relatively common Hard Times tokens portrays a Phoenix, mythical bird, rising from the flames. That token would make a nice companion piece for your CWT.

The " Red Book" has sections on Civil war and Hard Times tokens. If you've not already done so, Google the Civil War Token Society for fun and to gain knowledge. Enjoy!

Thanks ExoGuy for the great info. I'm waiting for my next piece to come in now. It's The Remembrance of 1863 token. I will post pics when it arrives.

I concur with PG and Exo's comments. I'd put the specimen at or around Extra Fine. It has retained a very nice chocolate coloring too. Congrats on your terrific pickup!
