I collect silver crowns, loosely defined as large silver dollar sized coins. My oldest are from 1560. This one is a Joachimsthaler minted in Bohemia (now the Czech Republic).

A question, what does "AR" mean after a date?
Edit: disregard. Must have been a typo.

@Bump111,
It's a metal designation, AR stands for Silver, AV stands for Gold, EL stands for Electrum (a mixture of gold and silver) and AE stands for copper.

Yet again, I've learned something on the forum! Thanks, CCC.

Expanding on the above, it dates to the origin of numismatics when all scholarly works were written in Latin: AE = AES AR = ARGENTVM AV = AVRVM EL = ELECTRVM PB = PLVMBVM (lead)
