Just received the 2011 1oz. Kangaroo at Sunset. Got the coin from a fellow member. This is a very unique coin to say the least. Bought the coin because of beauty and low mintage. Could somebody explain the history of the fabulous Fifteen "F-15" privy mark. Little research I did means it is a select number of world wide coins. Help please.

It's not always easy to find a lot of info on the Fab 15...almost seems secretive at times...but it's my understanding...a group of coin experts make a list of the coins THEY have decided the best of the year.....some of the coins will have the f15 privy.....others don't....only 5000. Sets are presented each yr.

Interestingly, the Royal Canadian Mint was selling the 2011 Australian F15 for $94.95 just a few weeks ago, but it is now sold out. Here is the link, http://www.mint.ca/store/product/pr...uestid=43897

Koin, I hear you. Not much info on the who, what, and when just trying to find out the history is a no go. Anybody have any web sites that gives information?
Mrpiedfort, thanks! I have been to that site and knew they were sold out. Glad I got one at a real good price a bit over the mint.

I just received the next 2011 F15 coin - it is indeed - as predicted earlier the Spain Palma - but here's the catch - it's only 0.437 ozT Sterling. (That's only .404 ozT of silver!) Cost $89.95, 92.5% pure. I thought these were all going to be "Bullion" silver. ie: 1 oz and 99.9 at least silver. This is a standard 2011 5 Euro coin. Nothing special except Sterling (I think the circulation one isn't silver). Very Disappointed.

... this is ridiculous. The only coins worth keeping from the F15 series is the SML and the kangaroo. I would not put it below the RCM to send a regular issue Kangaroo instead either.... Wholeheartedly disappointed.

It doesn't sound like much of an effort is being made by Mints other than the Australian and Canadian based Mints. It is a shame, because the idea of Mints working together to create international collections is welcomed by collectors.

$95 britannia?! that's a rip off. I cancelled my 2011 f15 sub as soon as I received SML. I bought a gold gilded britannia from APMEX for $79

Since posting about the new Spanish 5 Euro, I have spoken with a rep at the mint. Like the people here have mentioned, I was his only customer who bought into the Fab15 2011 edition. I explained how this would be a gift but I couldn't consider an investment if I was paying $222/oz of silver (do the math!) He has suggested that I write an email for further details about the remainder of the collection, and then make my decision. I'm thinking of going the way of Silverbug above, and selectively purchasing additional coins to 'fill the box' from other sources. I don't think they can ask me for the nice box back could they? Maybe I'll use the list provided at the beginning of this topic to at least be consistent with the F15 collection. Does anybody know where to get the square holders that they come in?

From my limited experience, it seems like you're just getting into the "good stuff" if that list from jpaiva is correct.

At this point I'll hold out for the display case and then see.

@Silverbug I'm thinking of doing the same thing once the summer kicks in. Get the privy SML then get out. I can't afford the entire subscription anyway and the privy SML seems like a good price.

@ztt2: yes, you need to ask yourself what can you get with these high premium, it turns out the extra value are in a wood box, a watch, some square capsules and some paper. I googled the f12 and f15 thing last year, not much information out there, seems no one even cares. with the total cost, you can get a complete set of Kooks or a complete set of gold gilded britannia. which IMHO is much more satisfying to look at.
