anyone interested in the gold lunar series? mintage still 2500 for dragon, the tiger is still available at RCM website, they raised the price, originally $588, now $688. BUT if buy the subscription which contains tiger, rabbit and a box, price is 1,277, which means the tiger is still 588, the gold content(8.88g) should worth around 515 right now

Seems like there are some harsh reviews on the Mint's Site regarding the non-lotus lunar series pertaining to the elevated mintage. Perhaps the Mint should have designed a third dragon coin as opposed to elevating the mintage on these two sets.

Wife bought into the gold series. 14K if I remember (or is it 18k). Really quite stunning once you seem them in person.

Spoke with a mint rep about the lotus dragon, and the official response to the change to 9999 silver is "easier to mint" ... when asked about the increase in mintages the rep said that was done in anticipation of demand overseas, now that multiple dealers have been authorized in Europe and Asia. The rep was shaking his head too, but that's what he was told to say.

Easier to "mint", or easier to "sell"? Somehow, I think it was done to make it easier to sell being tax free and higher silver content, which I think most collectors prefer.
As per selling these coins overseas. There may have been a strong demand for the original dragon (2000) selling overseas since there was little competition, but now every mint on the planet is distributing the Lunar Coins, competition is very stiff for these coins.
The lotus dragon should sell nicely now that it is pure silver, tax-free, equal in mintage, and looks ten times better than the other dragon coin. I see no reason why the Mint raised the mintage on the other dragon. I am making a prediction the non-lotus dragon will be a colossal failure.

well the non lotus dragon coin has more silver than the lotus, so thats why it will sell better...i think and for the same price I get more grams of silver...

We should have a poll on which one will outsell the other.

I still think mintage of 48888 is a tremendous mistake. Perhaps all of them coins will sell. Perhaps not. But I sure will not subscribe to any of the Mint's offering in many years to come. With this kind of uncertainty, I'd rather buy on the secondary market.

I will not buy RCM dragon coins this year, I will wait for them on sale at discount price later. in the mean time, I will buy some Perth Mint dragon coins, 2 oz dragon is only a little bit over $100 right now, and price will go up for sure

God spare us from ANYMORE coins with jewels, pictures, or holograms. Guess I am a traditionalist.

I'm sorry but I really don't see why the Canadian Mint finds need to continue on with these crystals. If they are running out of ideas just issue another contest.

Lets just get back to basics, Royal Canadian Mint. Paint or jewellery on a coin, IMHO is blasphemous, and unattractive. Symptomatic of our times, all glitter and fairy dust. Give me a nice old 1967 25 cent cougar any day over any of these coins.
