Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I see an original coin here and one I'd go 64RD on, maybe even 65. I'm also one of those that seems to see cleaning/dipping/etc everywhere even without merit. Send it to NGC/ANACS/ICG

Thanks hesgut ;-) I've already decided on NGC. I am a life member of the ANA, so I think we get direct submit privileges. I love the PCGS holders and the fact they are in my backyard, but this has happened to me too many times when I know darn well the coin is legit. I once submitted a 1943 Jefferson nickel that came out of an original confirmed Raymond Waite album with the most stunning multi-color toning I have ever seen. Guess what, Questionable Color. I guess some coins are just too unbelieveable to them...I don't know.

Well, I guess from the standpoint of the coin collecting public, I suppose I'd rather have some legit coins tuned away than ever allow an altered one slabbed. I think PCGS is best with that, but I have personally seen a circulated IHC that had an old cleaning with a good retoning get slabbed by PCGS. As far as the Wayte raymond folders....some of those coins turned out looking crazy though. Toned like a rainbow just like some coins that were treated in such a manner to look that way. So once again, I suppose I'd rather have had the true one turned away than have PCGS start taking guesses. All that being said, they clearly missed the ball on this one.

Quote: Those "graders" at PCGS called this 91/Questionable Color. Can you believe that! Huh. I wonder if they'd BB that if Rick Snow submitted it?

DV, Look at all the corrosion on it too...and that big hole. PCGS missed that too.

That's lame. I'm sorry Dave, you were robbed. That looks like a problem free coin to me.

Quote: Well, the verdict is in and I'm ticked! Those "graders" at PCGS called this 91/Questionable Color. It might grade at NGC but I'll tell you if you don't think their "standards" on toning are just as squirrely you haven't hung out on the NGC boards long enough to see the examples for yourself. And, I'm talking on IHCs, too, just like this one, that look perfect. If I had the time, I'd go there and pull out the threads for you.

It's funny b/c I had a 1902 MS RD IHC come back from NGC as altered color. Looked very similar to yours. Had great mint luster and cartwheel effect. I don't know what they were looking at.

Seems like ANACS is the only way to go considering all the weird stuff I've seen lately. Your coin is beautiful by the way Dave. I be very unhappy if I were you. Total rip off.

I said it would come back MS-65RD from PCGS, well... I guess they goofed. Yes, Dave, send it to ANACS, and it will still be a MS-65RD I'll bet Beautiful looking coin I can't see ant questionable color on it.
