First impression? No. Too much rub on the obverse. Too much toning on both sides to be an album piece.

I agree with your first impression, however as I looked more closely at the photo I couldn't really come to a conclusion of rub or some sort of an illusion due to the toning.

If its a rub or two, they are from long ago in my opinion.

Oh, absolutely. The toning is encroaching on the rub, if that's what it is. You were right - this is a toughie. I am just not quite satisfied enough with the knees, and the claws, to call it MS.

You are absolutely right on the money as far as the talons are concerned! AU 58 then?

I think that's the ticket (understanding I'm not familiar with the delineations between 53-55-58 with this issue). This is one of those you'd need to replace with MS64 or better to have a better-looking coin, even with the toning, which I suspect isn't as bad as the photo makes it look.
