I have this pretty cool looking coin and someone one time told me it was significant with the Lan 5 but other than that had no idea. Can someone please tell me the year and (other than that it is from france) what significance this may have or the value? Thanks!

Does "L'an 5" stand for year 5 after the revolution? Just guessing--I don't collect France.

DVCollector: Yes, it does.

This 5 centimes is from the Toulouse mint and in relatively good shape for this type.

The French Revolutionary Calendar began with Day 1 of Year 1 declared to be 22 September 1792. Thus, Year 5 began in September 1796 and ended in September 1797. It's given in the catalogues as "1796-97".

As to mintmark, your coin has mintmark "W", the city of Lille. Your coin is listed on this page, KM# 640.11, I'd grade it Fine - around $10 or so.
