I agree with you SD, but we truly are at the whim and fancy of the graders on high aren't we? They really DO run the railroad it seems. I had thoughts of parlaying this 38mm jewel into an Antietam commemorative, but I'm thinking she deserves a better fate and will spend the rest of my life (not hers) next to her earlier and later cousins in my Type Set. PG

I dont see any surface alteration. Thats just crazy. Sure its toned...its a beautiful MS-64 coin.

Is NGC suggesting that toning is AT?
That toning doesn't look deliberate--what is NGC seeing that I'm not?

That evidently is what they're suggesting. To really appreciate it, you need to have the coin in hand. I guess they thought it was too good to be from a natural process. I'm switching TPG's anyway (tough talk for "I'm taking my toys and going home!")

Just got her back home and snuggled between an 1872 Liberty Seated (that came back AU details ) and a 28S Peacenik). There she will remain.....
