http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/brea...2957563.htmlSo I thought you all would find this video link interesting. I enjoy this show mainly because their dad, the ol man rips them all a new one on a daily basis, an I figure most all you see is pre-set scripted transactions, but apparently they have been open in Vegas for 30 years.... Most interesting to note that he tells the news that he stocks the gold an silver every day, an it is all sold by noon.... Also, not even taking power tools any longer, as construction has grounded to complete halt in the area. He speaks of a gloomy economy, an tries to be positive saying...."Well at least it is not getting worse?" Is it not Rick, lol? Side-note, I have been to their ebay store, and that atomic bomb pedal car toy he bought from the fifties on one show which was a rust bucket bought for a grand, has been restored and is now for sale for like 5 grand plus, lol....

I like that show, but I always wonder if its scripted somewhat or not. But the guy has to make money so he offers 50% of the value the expert gives it, sometimes 60%

I stopped watching Pawn Stars; the items became less and less interesting. But yeah, that's pretty fast, all sold by noon....

I would be interested to see just how many different buyers are coming in, or is it just a handful of smart repeat buyers....
Anotherwords, I would like to see out of the total population within a 30 mile radius, just how many of that total is buyin up the Pawn stars G & S....

It really depends on your area. Some places have none, some can't get rid of it. The high prices of silver is stopping me from buying everything I see. But gold is around, and silver is definitely around. Once it hits $50 you're gonna see it coming out of the woodworks.

Got to remember Pawn Stars is in the tourist strip of Vegas though. I bet a good majority of their buyers are tourists and not regulars. That would also be a key reason why they may be able to sell for higher than what some pieces are worth. Tourists that can afford to visit the casino strip in Vegas for what it is are likely not the best at bargain hunting

Very interesting, but would have been better if the two news guys were funny.

Just another scripted "reality" show. Example 1: Most people pawn, yet somewhere around 90% of their customers sell.
If the name of your store was "gold and silver", and you sold out by noon, would you:
raise prices stock more gold and silver be sold out half the hours you're open

nnn... No doubt it's scripted to a certain extent. But again, this is main strip Vegas we're talking about, not your average downtown pawn shop. I'd bet he's not stretching it all that far when he says 90% sell. And, even the local small-time (opens only during weekends) silver/gold dealer tucked away in a corner at the farmer's market sells out every (200+ oz of silver) weekend the stock he accumulates over the weekdays.

1) they admit that something like 60% pawn, but on the show, almost everyone sells.
2) you can't sell from an empty cart.

I like Chumlee! One of the reasons I watch the show.
I think the name Gold and Silver Pawn Shop is just a name to draw people into the store.

I saw another interview with him where he showed all their silver, and he had safes full of slabbed silver coins. Of course this was a couple of years ago.

All I remember is going in there (was not impressed in the least) and seen their G & S coins with ridiculous prices, I almost laughed until I was choking. It's a tourist trap, that's it.

And he went on to say, that when him and his buddies went out to Vegas a time or two back in the day, they all had a pocket full of money, an they were blowin it on everything one could imagine just like all tourists do, lol.... I will never forget, he had one poker buddy who has since past on, and him and another friend went back up the room to find him after being in the hotel for like 90 minutes, and he was in his boxers drinkin an eating some room service. An they said...."Jim what gives, thought you came to gamble?", an he replied...."Ah blown out!" An my dad asked...."What, how much are you down?", an he replied..."Fifty grand, blown out."

Betcha you couldn't borrow 50 large from him to start a gold buying biz
Gatlinburg-admittedly, it was 1BD, but it struck me as wall-to-wall junk.
