I ran across a few of these so called counterfits about a year ago and only bought 2 as a novelty ( iknow that there are counterfits, not where the story is going). They were 15,000 won each (at the time about $7.50 due to exchange rates). Long story short they turned out to actually be real morgans and are called Trade dollars where the Chinese vendor marked them with their trade mark back in the day to certify they are real. Wish I had bought all of them. They are highly collectable too.

Anyways my point is now I'm a little more knowledgable and hope to share...

dynamic, those are not Morgans, but are Trade dollars. Two completely different things. The Trade dollars pre date the Morgans. Those marks are called chop marks. And the Trades are probably the most counterfeited of the coins out there. If they were sold as fakes, I would be willing to bet they really are fake.

I just bought a very nice Unc 55 quarter and 80SBA at a pawn shop. I always check the pawn shops as you never know what you might find. Though I agree the shop had to know it was fake. But he didnt rip you, so no biggy. Also considering an 1804 is worth at least 2 million, no way a pawn shop has a real one.

As for pawn shops only being there to rip you off. There are plenty of coin shops that are bigger rip off artists than any pawn shop. So to say that is just silly.
