I have recently found a bank that can order me large dollar coins. They said the supplier has 400 on hand but nothing more specific than that. Lets just assume they are all Ikes is it worth it to give it a shot and grab all 400?

Guess my point being, assuming they are all Ikes, what could I gain from all the effort? Is there anything worth searching out in Ikes? I know some issues were silver clad, but really rare. Just trying to mind my expenses and not waste the effort for little chance of any gain

I would do it in a heartbeay. Without knowing anything you could have silver ikes, proofs, Peace dollars or morgan.
The worse case is you take them to another bank and return them. They go for about $1.50 on ebay for some reason.

I would get them! Several rarer varieties, like the 71D friendly Ealge, the 72 Type 2 and I think there are others. Plus, possible chance for proofs or silver dropped in there by mistake. Whatever you don't want, you leave for tips at restaurants or to buy gas or other small dollar stuff. They are becoming collectible. Hardly ever see Ikes go for less than $1.25 per coin.

go for it. I know coin DEALERS that pay $1.05 for them. or on ebay you could probably sell a lot for $1.25-$1.50 /piece. plus the ikes have a lot of die varieties to play with. or you could get lucky and get 400 peace/morgan dollars.

Definately jump on that. http://www.ikegroup.info/index.php Check that site to find out more about Ikes.

If you dont want to mess with it, let me know. Maybe we can work something out, because I would LOVE to grab those.

Move on it, before someone else does. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, besides you are getting them for face value.

If you are successful at ordering the large size dollars can you ask the bank EXACTLY how they do it because I believe a lot of other banks could do so to, they just don't know how to go about doing it. Banks tend to have a standard form they use for making orders of coin and currency. This form does not have a listing on it for the large size dollars, but I know years ago some banks could still get them simply by writing it in by hand. That might still be all it takes.

For face value you can't go wrong. Put a set together, look for goodies, and either sell the rest
for slightly over face or spend them. You will at least become an expert on the series.

I asked about "how" they get thm and they told me it was just that they had accumulated 400 in the main vault at their downtown office ( I was asking at a branch office) so it seems I just stumbled onto what they have been accumulating for a while. The coins will be in Wednesday, I will repost on the contents once I go through them.
