Here's another bank find. It appears to have strong AU luster and no sign of damage or alteration. Edge reeding is present although it isn't as sharp as I'd expect from a normally-struck AU coin.

Thoughts? Grease-filled dies perhaps, or a die-adjustment strike, or something else?

IMO it just looks worn through use.

I think the ring-shaped pattern makes it look more like wear than a Greaser.

I see a fair number of coins like this in different denominations with peripheral lettering flattened... I think it's some sort of Rolling Machine Damage.

if it had been a dime/nickel/quarter, I might have thought the wear was from a vending machine.

"Death by Coin Star", it appears that the coin has made one to many tripos through a coin counter.

This is a slightly weak strike. Grease doesn't form such narrow, perfect rings on both faces. Also, it appears that the coin retains a beveled rim/edge junction, which would also be consistent with a weaker-than-normal strike. Finally, your observation of weaker-than-normal reeding is consistent with a weak strike.

One important note- there is far too much luster on the coin for it to be wear. For a weak strike, the central portion of the design is strongest with weakness spreading towards the periphery.
