Is this a small date. Compared to 1976d it is much smaller, but close to same size as most others.

LOL... same problem I had, thinking my 70-S pennies were small date when in fact they are large date. It is *really* hard to tell!

It's actually VERY easy to tell the difference if you know the features to compare.
