Hi, I was just wondering if I could have an opinion on this coin that I picked up on ebay. It appears to be of a very high grade but there are a couple of rim dents on one side. Would this detract a great deal from the value?

Cool I would love to own that. I don't think that the rim dents would detract from the value that much. Nice coin :)

Thanks Trout, It cost me $456. The sellers photo wasn't great but I could see plenty of feathers on the Emu so I took a bit of a punt. I'm glad I did because it is a spectacular coin and I especially love the colouring. It was a lesson that if I ever decide to sell any coins on ebay I have to make sure that the photos are good.

excellant buy. I've never seen one of these in this condition. Without those rim dents it would be aunc. I would call it ef+. Beutifull coin, The bananas will dance for you.

Yes it is correct weight (although you did send me racing over to my scales). The photos probably don't do it justice. Under stronger light it has quite a cartwheel lustre.
It is definitely my favourite coin

Lovely coin, a real keeper. Is that a small planchet flaw through the Kings ear? Not sure if PCGS would grade it because of the rim dents. Might have some rub on the emu, IMO grades AU -this might differ in hand. A very pretty $1,500 coin there.

You have a real nice coin there, I'm 90% confident that PCGS wouldn't certify that and 70% confident that NGC wouldn't ceritfy it. If you were thinking of selling it and put it in an auction tomorrow I think you would easily double your money, but if I was you I would keep it, it's a nice original (uncleaned/polished example) with just minor wear on the reverse. I'd say aUNC/gEF.

I have a few Australian coins. I normally don't collect them.
Nevertheless I do have a 1910 Florin, and that one is much better than mine.
I have a current auction catalogue with a few 1910 Florins in it. For the same condition, the price you have obtained yours for is less than the reserve for a 1910 in equivalent condition, so that makes it a good pickup.
I never consider Mc Donald's prices. Mostly, I think they are too high. Why would you pay full retail when it is easy to pick up the equivalent for significantly less at auction? In your case, you have done better than reserve at auction.
Nice coin. Congratulations!

Great coin and nice pickup for the money. Looks EF/AU to me and I think those rim nicks would prevent it from being graded by PCGS or NGC. That being said it has bags of eye appeal and I'd be happy to have it in my collection for the price you paid!

PCGS would slab it but but only as GENUINE with no grade, NGC would slab it with a details grade and an annotation for the rim dings.

"Is that a small planchet flaw through the Kings ear?" It looks like something in the minting process. Here is a close up Thanks for all your comments. I won't be selling it in the foreseeable future but it was great to read the feedback. I'll be just keeping it to gaze at adoringly every now and then
