Brad Meltzer's Decoded is airing an episode that there is no gold in Ft Knox.

So they are protecting a memory, or perhaps many other secret gov projects, as it would be a real waste to fund all those who guard and protect it. Not to mention all the high tech weapons and upkeep, this should be a great episode....

I didn't think the episode was very good. Armor Soldiers are there to train irrespective of the gold. The gold "protection" is a secondary mission. Gold, mold, whatever. The vast numbers of tank crews trained there throughout the years, is worth more gold then the building could store.
When an Aircraft carrier group is parked off a coast, America has been disrespected.
When Abram tanks are rolling across another country and raining destruction, that shows the resolve of the USA and the American people's commitment.

I'm not a fan of "Decoded." Of every episode I've seen, I've yet to see them actually decode anything. A more appropriate title for that show would be "Brad Meltzer's trio travels the country to share conspiracy theories"

I would agree......... but the "John Wilkes Booth" one was pretty good! I have noticed that one is NOT in any of the reruns?
So, what would happen if it was released that there is no more gold in Knox?

Funny thing about Fort Knox is that it really isn't unique any more, The West Point Bullion Depository has almost as much gold as they store in Kentucky. West Point used to be the silver equivalent of Fort Knox but the National Silver Stockpile has dwindled due to the American Eagle program so they primarily store gold there now.

I have watched a few episodes of Decoded. I take everything being said on that show with a grain of salt. I can't believe that the Treasury Department is in charge of guarding an empty vault. Anytime people are kept out of the dark about certain government programs or agencies, this creates conspiracy theories, such as Area 51. Decoded should be watched for its entertainment value and not taken as fact. In the end it's just a television program and nothing more.

All good points! BUT!.........
If there is Gold in Knox, why not show the accounting sheets? Why not allow a camera crew in there?
Why not allow a creditable leak of information to say "Yes!" the gold is there.
Growing up 45 miles out side of Wash. DC, there was a local Army Base that was not really used since the 1940's when it was a Infantry Training center. But it always had the top security and gate patrols, etc.... Most of the base was wooded but for a few distant fields where you could see very tall radio towers. All us locals were sure it was a relay station or some thing. Years latter when they shut it down, I find out that my best friend from HS was there for 4 years de-codeing secret Russian messages, but we thought he was in Hawaii! They would send them to Hawaii from tim eto time so they could take pictures and pick up gifts for friends and family, then re-route their mail through the islands.
So the locals DO know what is going on! Just not the whole story.

Great points about decoded, as it reminds me of monster quest. Much entertaining fun to watch, but very little credible evidence of anything ever brought to the table....
I will say one episode on monster quest was very interesting about a most remote fishing cabin way up around the Vancouver/Washington border. Anyhow, a Big-foot had supposedly been trashing this cabin, looking for food perhaps. Too remote for any humans or kids to have done it. So the owner set up a nail trap at front door. Next time, he found hairs and blood in the shape of one large foot on the nail trap, and the DNA evidence came back very interesting as an UNKNOWN species, perhaps closely resembling human, or ape DNA....
That Wilkes Booth episode was some very interesting information as well....

Is there any chance that Modern US gold coins come from the national stockpile? I imagine they just buy planchets fron The Sunshine Mint or others. If they were minted from Fort Knox gold then they should market them as such. I would be willing to pay a healthy premium to buy one or five ounce gold bars that come from Fort Knox and are stamped to verify that they are from there.

This dwindled over the years until it was down to nothing. Somehow, I have to think that they did not mint 10 billion ASEs. It is likely that a good share of the original hoard was sold off, probably as bars. |
