I just picked up a 5 gallon bucket to drop my coppers in. Got the bucket for free so it's really a no risk investment lol. I'm only dropping 1959-1982 (after weighing them) cents in. I figure once I get the bucket filled I'll trade it or sell it above face. And if worse comes to worse I'll just cash them in and then make a purchase lol. Just another thing to do/collect when already going through cents.

So what does a full 5-gallon bucket of coppers weigh? I'm sure one of you has done the math. I've had one glass of vino too many to get the grey matter to function properly at this time. I saw an ebay auction (and there's been a thread or two here on it) of some guy that had 10+ 40-gallon brute trashcans full of wheaties. I think the going rate was $90k or something close. It was truly amazing and I have a hard time wrapping my head around how one would dispose of said hoard in a remotely timely fashion. Lots of capital tied up there on a collection that size. My "hoard" is less than $50 currently. And my wheatie finds from rolls is less than $2. Baby steps and easy to move. 2x or 4x and I may have a different story for you.

IIRC, shipping was part of the $90k. I'll look for the thread. I'm sure someone else remembers too that isn't awake fr some odd reason like we are.

I keep coppers in $50 canvas bank bags each weighing about 35 pounds and stack them as "ballast" on lower shelves to stabilize a workbench, which otherwise would want to "walk" during energetic sawing and filing operations.

Ha! That's a great idea, tmaring. I just use bags of sand for my lathe, but your idea is definitely higher-class. :)

I've been holding onto them for years. Don't search rolls just for the copper but as somebody before mentioned, it's a no-brainer if you already are going through the rolls for Wheats, varieties, etc. I sell them off on ebay once a year and put the money toward my summer vacation. Have five $50 face lots on the 'Bay right now.

coppernickeldaddy, what are you getting for your $50 face lots? Shipping has got to be pretty expensive on those lots too. Included in the sale price or additional?

I also keep all copper. Don't really have a reason other than just to see how many I can actually accumulate. It is one way to save some money, lol all be it pennies.

Not saying I hoard but I do know that you need to find a good place to put your 5 gallon bucket before it gets too full, lol.

CelticKnot, I have them listed at $74.99 plus shipping. Looked at some completed lots and thought that was about what I could get. No bites yet, but I'm patient!
