I purchased the 1/25 oz gold coin. I have all the 1/25 oz coins so would have bought it anyway but in this particular instance, I thought the owl shaman design was very nice.
I wish I could afford the Jacques Cartier coin but then I don't have last year's Viking coin.

The Mint just added some videos for the new coins, like the new 1/2oz Snake, new Go7 and 2013 proof dollar... the coins already looked better in the new photos and now they look even better in the video.... There is even a video for the 1KG Canada's Arctic Landscape coin, it looks very 3D!

While Talisman's prices are much less and make them seem like a great deal, if you throw in their shipping cost (which is also admittedly low) and likelihood of having to pay import duty/taxes on the total won't that bring the final price much higher?

I ordered some coins from the usa and sometime they charge duty, but if it's pure silver or gold .9999 , .999 or 99.9 you can get your money back, because silver and gold is duty free. I can't remember if they charge me tax.

My previous message said duty free should be tax free.sorry Silver and gold are tax free if it's .9999,.999 or 99.9. custom might charge you tax but you can get your money back.

I happen to be around the the Ottawa boutique today so I stopped by. They has the following coin on display: 14k Gold Coin - 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Arctic Expedition - Mintage: 2500 (2013) Fine Gold Coin - Jacques Cartier - Mintage: 2000 (2013) Fine Silver Proof Set - 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Arctic Expedition (2013) either Brilliant Fine Silver Dollar - 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Arctic Expedition (2013) or Proof Fine Silver Dollar - 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Arctic Expedition (2013).
Don't think they could sell them yet but they have them on display. Didn't like any of them so I didn't bother to ask if someone could buy it right away.

lol, their policy is to sell only on and after public release date. They can display them but not sell them before the date.

i saw the baseball coins on display at the store. However, they were told to remove from display since the baseball coins are not yet officially launched. I guess they could sell the arctic coins since they were already launched.

Well, I bit the bullet and purchased the silver proof set along with the Proof and BU Canadian Arctic Expedition (CAE) dollars.
I collect Canada's commemorative silver dollars for the history they represent (not their resale value), and the historical significance of the Arctic Expedition can't be questioned. I've been reading about it the past few days â€" quite impressive!
I find the design of the coin to be excellent as well. I like the way it effectively combines the rugged dog sled image in the foreground with the sleek compass image in the background. The dog sled team image was taken directly from an expedition photograph with only slight modification. I think Bonnie Ross, the coin's designer, did a great job with this one and the "matching" gold $100 coin.
I agree with others that the price of the silver proof is very high, but I decided that I would prefer to pay the price and get a pristine CAE dollar coin in the set vs. buying one removed from the set and having to deal with potential impairments (even if minor).

Agree. I love the design on the gold plated dollar. Hopefully, I can pick up one or two when the dust has settled.
