I had a small one going for playing, and then Scooby sent me his one for hosting. I've expanded both, and each needs updating all the time because each game is different in terms of number of currencies (sometimes we only do 7 or 8, sometimes 10), etc. The formulas also need adjusted daily because it also keeps track of daily guesses per person. Keeps me on my toes. But then you have times like last night when the blasted thing didn't want to work. Computers are wonderful things when they actually work right, and will drive you mad quickly when they don't! |

Thanks to all  weavus135: This was my first time playing this stuff. I used Excel but I didn't use any formula. The main advantage is the order, that you can copy-paste the currencies guesses knowing that you don't make mistakes. Also, you can use different colors and all the information is in just one sheet. Finally, you can use the "undo" option if you do a mistake. I did made a mistake and I undo like 20 steps back. Doing that in a paper would be complicated. As a host I could consider using formulas but even if I've an intermediate-advanced level in Excel, as a player ...  it would be too complicated, there are 12 currencies. More than a formula you will need an algorithm. xshift: 99% of the times, it's not the computer fault, it's our fault. When someone tells me that the computer is doing a mistake, I answer: "Look, it's possible, but 99% of the time it would be your fault". Edited by arianzo

LOL There are so many bugs in that thing no way it is 1% it's fault...more like 50% if I am being conservative! Congrats again. You did amazingly well for a first time player. that last answer came even quicker than I had predicted it would. |

Congrats again Arianzo.
I used a combination of Word for copying and pasting and paper and pencil. I thought about trying Excel. I may do that next time. I am a programmer and I could probably write something to do this for me, but I have resisted doing that. I like trying to figure it out.

Mine helps keep the guesses and currencies straight and helps me with my next guess, but I don't think ANY formula is going to figure it out. It's definitely a brain-stretcher figuring out the formulas for some of it; it was fun to make and really is an ongoing project.
But yes, copy and paste is your friend when it comes to the guesses. Back when I used to do it with pencil I mis-wrote a couple of them, and that can really set you back.

Belated congratulations! I got pulled away from the interwebs on Friday and I am so sorry I could not continue to participate. I really hope there is another MasterMind soon - at least I can contribute with comedic relief. |

I can do another one soon if somebody else doesn't start one before then. Maybe in 2-3 weeks after everyone's brain has recovered from this one We once had a mini-championship mastermind, with 4 rounds and then a 'mind-off' for the winners of the 4 games. Just imagine how mushy their brains felt after that!  |

But I meant Excel, where even if a bug is possible, 99.99% is the user's fault until he realizes the mistake in the formula.

If you are a programmer, it would be like a challenge for you to create such algorithm. However, effectively to use it during the game would be like "boring" because it would be just a copy-paste like a robot, without analyzing anything.
xshift: Some rounds should be funny. So, if you are the winner of one round, you don't participate until the final?
