Hi All ~ I certainly appreciate all of the input. It made one realize that the Coin World is not one dimensional, as I am sure most believe. While it is disheartening to find that you do not have what you thought you had, that's okay, the education made it worth it. At the end of the day, I suspect I have a pretty large pile of melt. Before I do that, there was a suggestion that I sort by date and mint and post a list. I may have to go back and check the earlier years for quarters to see if there were mint marks that I failed to note. So here goes... HALVES: 1917 2 1917S 1 1918 1 1920 3 1920D 1 1923S 1 1934 4 1935 3 1935S 1 1936 10 1936S 1 1936D 2 1937 2 1939S 1 1939D 2 1940 7 1941 23 1941S 3 1941D 4 1942 42 1942S 5 1942D 9 1943 34 1943S 3 1943D 7 1944 15 1944S 3 1945 22 1945S 3 1945D 3 1946 4 1947 1 1948 1 1949S 1 1950 5 1950D 4 1951 12 1951S 7 1951D 2 1952 20 1952S 1 1952D 14 1953 4 1953D 8 1954 11 1954D 13 1956 1 1957 3 1957D 11 1958 5 1958D 14 1959 1 1959D 6 1960D 1 1961 7 1961D 4 1962 11 1962D 8 1963 10 1963D 19 1964 35 QUARTERS: 1902 1 1925 1 1926 1 1927 1 1929 2 1932 1 1934 5 1935 6 1936 8 1937 3 1938 3 1939 9 1940 6 1941 21 1942 29 1943 24 1944 31 1945 27 1946 16 1947 9 1948 9 1949 5 1950 13 1951 21 1952 28 1953 20 1954 24 1955 3 1956 16 1957 25 1958 15 1959 11 1959D 7 1960 14 1960D 12 1961 15 1961D 17 1962 10 1962D 33 1963 28 1963D 23 1964 148 DIMES: 1918 1 1923 1 1924 1 1927 1 1928 2 1929 2 1930 1 1934 2 1935 7 1936 5 1937 5 1938 4 1939 5 1939D 1 1940 11 1940S 2 1941 19 1941D 1 1942 26 1942D 1 1943 21 1943S 1 1943D 3 1944 34 1944S 1 1945 19 1945S 2 1945D 1 1946 35 1946S 1 1946D 2 1947 7 1947D 3 1948 10 1948D 3 1949 3 1949D 1 1950 3 1950D 2 1951 12 1951D 9 1952 19 1952D 5 1953 7 1953D 18 1954 15 1954D 5 1956 16 1956D 4 1957 28 1957D 6 1958 5 1958D 9 1959 11 1959D 8 1960 19 1960D 11 1961 16 1961D 20 1962 13 1962D 22 1963 26 1963D 32 1964 116 1964D 33 NICKLES: 1940-1949: 46 1950-1959: 49 1960-1964: 103 Thanks Again!

where is the mint mark on the 1917S half? obverse (heads) or reverse (tails)? any nickels dated 1942-1945 or 1950D?

Can you post a pics of the halves from 1939 and before? a group pic should be fine; pick out a dozen or so of the nicest coins so we can estimate the grade. same for the early quarters and dimes would really be big help in getting an idea of the grade

The 1917S half is reverse and to be honest it is real worn.

the 1942P nickel is a War Nickel. 35% silver; worth a buck or two in normal circulated condition.

If you decide to sell for melt let me know before you sell them. Maybe we could work out a trade on some of the silver halves. You have a few years/mint marks that I need for my Walking Liberty and Franklin sets.

For the halves dated before 1930, I think you should be able to get a few extra bucks as long as they aren't problem coins, if they grade VF or better.
I am under the impression that for the remaining dates listed, unless it is an exceptional MS coin, you aren't going to get any premium for it.

Your pre-34 Halves (assuming they are G+) along with the 48, 49-S, 53, 56 and 58 dated ones are likely worth a little more than the rest of them. Out of curiosity, are all of your pre-59 Quarters Phillys? If so, the only ones really worth holding onto are the 1902, 1925 through 1930, 1932, and 1938 dated coins. The Pre-34 Dimes along with the War Nickel and the Buffalo also are worth keeping.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

I just called the local coin store today and they were only paying 12x face and approx $15 for common, non cull morgans and peace. Seems low to me.

Look, I can tell you this: for the amount of work you will have to go through to get those few extra $$ for the better dates (based on the list you have given), if you found someone who is willing to give you 14x face right now, you will do well to simply sell it all for that price. It is a really good price at the moment.
..Unless you have the option to hold it long-term; silver made a long-term bottom in January, and should now be on it's way up for the next couple of years. That's a promise.

From the subsequent information you have provided it seems that the 14x offer you received seems to be fairly decent for quick cash. Unfortunately the coin shops in my area pay considerably lower than that. You might be able to get a bit more if you sold them yourself on ebay but that would take a lot of effort.

For bulk junk silver I put them in rolls and list on ebay with starting bid around or slightly back of melt. I show a photo of the coins displayed in a bourse tray so buyers can get ideas as to what obv and rev look like.
