I'll go with Wrapping Machine Damage from the crimping fingers. I found this 1970 awhile ago with the same damage.

By no means is this a mint error. T-BOP was just "funnin"

T-BOP has been reported to Santa. We'll see who gets the last laugh.

Mark, that's a plausible scenario, but I am just having a hard time with that since there are no other signs of damage seen anywhere else on the coin and usually the Wrapping Machine Damage is NOT confined to just One tiny area. TMHO

Could they have been through a very old vending machine, causing this damage on the end of the digits?

OK - then it must be Santa's Elves damaging these cents when they're not building toys.

Oh, and congrats David on 14,000 posts. I tried sending a PM to you but my PM option STILL must not be working.

Thank you Mark! That's okay Mark. I have your email and I can email you, if you'd like. Also, merry Christmas to you, your family, and everyone else.

Well something likes to move the last number in the date. I know @spruett001 has posted a few like these also awhile ago.

So it's likely mechanical damage?

As I stated earlier, rolling/wrapping machine, they hit the last digit a lot. We've seen it here many, many times.

I'm in total agreement with that. And yes, I've seen this exact type of damage here on CCF quite a few times before.

Yes, I have several from the 1940s that show this type of damage. I do not know, specifically, what caused it. I don't have any cents that show the same effect from later years. What I see now is a liklihood of quarters being damaged by crimpers. I don't see a correlation with cents or any other coin. I have seen machine damage on more recent cents, but the concentric damage shows more toward the coin's center. It's just not the same; I don't know what to say.

I always thought it's damage from the old hand cranked penny gumball machines.
