You'll find different opinions about breaking out of slabs or not. I collect old copper and break them out but others would disagree.
One reason for getting details coins slabbed is to verify that they are genuine.

Then again I'd think no one would ever send one in to get slabbed, so what do I know  Yea, w/ these that are very far from top condition, I think I'm gonna set them loose! |

From the pictures you posted the 1857 Half Dime wouldn't make a difference. The 1798 large cent you would be losing a lot of value cracking that out if you decided to try and sell that online or too a dealer without having it regraded Edited by basebal21

 I'm not a fan of slabbed coins so my opinion is to break out all coins. |

I cannot sell coins in details holders, but when I break them out, even with the problem fully described, they sell.

Yeah when I shop (all ebay) I tend to avoid slabbed coins - 1) I figure they aren't gonna be bargains, and 2) if they aren't in Details slabs, maybe they "might" be non-details! Of course if you disclose this w/ unslabbed coins, you are a more honest seller than most I like your footer - I have no use for albums or rules (thus I dislike the 7070, wow what a random bunch of requirements & restrictions), my coins are of the theme "bags of doubloons"! |

Some people may not believe it with a minor problem and think everyone else is wrong and they're getting a great deal etc. A lot depends on the problem, questionable color or a light scratch in a non focal point the slab saying it is a downer for a lot of people. A polished or massive scratch slab or not it will have the stigma |

For plugging a hole in an album, I see no problem cracking out a details coin. Better that than putting a high MS grade coin in it then sliding the window across the surface of the coin leaving hairlines.

Then again I'd think no one would ever send one in to get slabbed Sometimes they send them in trying to get them slabbed as a high value variety but fail and wind up with a details grade. I prefer to crack out coins except for the non-high value coins. It all depends on person and coin$. |
