I'm thinking in the upper AU range but possibly polished.

Quote: If it was cleaned had to have been close to issue date, its been in a box in attic since early 80s Unless you mean the early 1880s, that's still a century in which anyone had the chance to buff this coin up to make it nice and shiny.

Yes 1880s they were my great grand fathers, given to grandpa, then my dad now me. Just deciding if it's worth getting graded

Quote: Just deciding if it's worth getting graded It would cost more than this coin is worth to have it graded. Appreciate it for the family history as an heirloom piece. Very few people can say that they have something passed down from their great-grandfather.

I suspect it's been cleaned/polished at some point in the past. Grading would be tough on this one--low to mid AU I'm thinking.

Definitely cleaned/buffed. Not even worth slabbing at all. Still a keeper though, since it's silver.

AU details, cleaned/polished. Only worth its silver melt value.

With the family history, I would buy some generic slabs from Wizards Coin Supply and label it as such. to CCF

to the CCF this is a circulated coin that has been cleaned. Its value lies in the silver content and family history.

i have to agree with all the comments. the coin would grade AU details (cleaned/polished).
nickelsearchers comment that Its value lies in the silver content and family history is appropriate. if you pass the coin on to the next gen, place the coin in a holder and note where it came from.
