I agree that it is under graded! I think it is a minimum of 55. However, can someone tell me if they have ever seen a tail like this?

That appears to be a die gouge. I recommend you send that to Leroy Van Allen for VAM attribution. Your coin appears to be a VAM 3. If it indeed is a die gouge and not some well placed bag mark, you will likely receive a new VAM designation. Likely, VAM 3A.

do you really think it could be a new VAM? Would I have to send the whole coin or just detailed pictures?

There is an arrow head and pressed between the E and D and the nine is closed. Also, some of the letters in God we trust are touching.

you may be able to contact him and send him detailed pictures to see if he recommends you send it in but to be sure he would have to see the original coin so you would have to send it in

I think I also found an "A" dieclash on the reverse! Let me know what you think?

Keep in mind what *could* clash there - what's on the other side of the coin at that spot? There is no arrow on a Morgan die opposite ED, and no A opposite IT. These features aren't clashes.

Also a real pretty coin, also pretty expensive...

VERY pricey, like $2800 - $4500 range pricey.

Beautiful coin hemi, nice crisp details. I'm surprised it's not higher than a 53 grade, looks more like a MS-60 or 63 possibly.

Those marks on the reverse you've highlighted are unique. Might be worth having those inspected to determine what they are and how they got on the coin.

can anyone suggest a place to send the coin? Should I crack this coin out as I believe it is under graded also? This would be a big step and I am interested in serious opinions. Thanks everyone!

It looks like there is too much flatness above the ear and on the breast of the eagle to go too much higher. They are generally well struck but I have seen some with a little weak. Before you would crack it out, can you post any larger pictures of this?
It is definitely a great piece and would fit any collection nicely!
And ANACS is definitely not where I would go, not on a piece like this. People do pay a premium for PCGS and NGC over ANACS.

the problem I have is that the website only limits you to 100 KB. Therefore, we have to sacrifice quality for size and there is no benefit. I mean I can dig nine megapixel pictures but I can't get them on this site!
