Dave: you originally didn't mention other certifiers. You commented on NGC's certifications only. I than questioned what PCGF would do, since I have never used them, nor ANACS, and now I understand. Another important thing I have learned, never, never buy coins from Aantv in paper slabs. Unless its in my hand, I won't consider it.Thanks all.

Right, NGC will assign only the base grade for problem coins VG would only be VG8 or VG10 so I don't see that being a big deal.
PCGS wouldn't even say what grade it is, just that it is genuine or not
ANACS will assign a numeric grade to nearly any problem coin.
I don't really see any issue here at all, NGC is saying they have been cleaned but have the details of a VG coin. Whether it is VG8 or VG10 doesn't really matter.

There was an issue(A CLEANING AND GRADING ISSUE) and the main issue is being a new collector and having problems(ISSUES) and not knowing everything you experienced collectors know. I'm learning all the time, and when I write the forum with an "ISSUE",I'm seeking knowledge by asking questions. And when other new collectors read our "ISSUES", they also learn, which is why were all here, isn't it? Again, thanks for all the answers and info fellow members.

Then I suggest you research and look at as many coins as possible, to get a feel for altered, cleaned, etc coins. Before purchasing coins research that certain series and look at as many coins as possible and you have a much higher chance of not getting burned.

Very true. And as I said, I will never purchase a coin(s) from a TV show again. Thanks.

Buyer beware. That's why I don't buy coins unless I see them...

NGC is excellent. That's why I love them. If they said it was cleaned, it probably was. They grade harshly, and I tend to grade the same way. - coincrazed

No offense Coincrazed, but I don't think it will help you to have closed eyes to the other TPG's. Imagine this scenario. You see a very nice PCGS G-4 1916-D Mercury dime at a very reasonable price. With your "very strict and harsh grading skills" would you pass the PCGS coin up, even though you know the coin will get the same grade from NGC? I personally favor PCGS, but when I look for a certain coin, if it is in an NGC slab I will consider equally as if it were graded by PCGS. I make my own decision based on my opinions and coin, not on the grade the TPG gave it.

I just see all these WAAAAAAY overgraded PCGS "Good-4" 1916D's on ebay, and have seen NGC grade better and stricter. I also notice you always use a 1916D Mercury dime in your analogies, LOL! I must really show I like and want that coin! Thanks for the advice. Good luck! - coincrazed

My main question now is, since my CC coins were not graded (due-to-the-cleaning) and "now" I don't want them in my completed set of CC's,(makes my completed set look bad, can I sell them? Would someone want-them when the slab states, "improperly cleaned, or I am just stuck with them now?

Typical, thought the coins were just fine until they failed to receive the blessing of the TPG, now they ate the "ugly stepchildren" (No offense intended to anyone who happens to be a stepchild. I never liked that term anyway, if they are part of the family they are your child, PERIOD. Making distictions only leads to alienation.) Sure someone will want them, you wanted them didn't you? If no one will touch them in the slab crack them and sell them raw. Then maybe the next guy will get it into the slab. Happens all the time. Sometimes coins that are in a companies slab get cracked and sent back in only to be bodybagged, and then sent in again and reslabbed, sometimes even upgraded after bodybagging. Frankly unless the problems are blatant the rejection for problems seems to be rather arbitrary.
