Got me thinking...
If you were to contact the seller privately and offer 15 to 20% less than spot; would they sell it to you off of ebay- I wonder if they would take that deal.

I am making a set of each denomination of canadian coins living in Buffalo NY
I don't know how many people would trade silver for canadian
I'm sure some people would
people get excited and count canadian coins in their weekly or box finds
I get so many I dont
I search them for what I want or need and roll them when I have enough, return them to the bank telling them they are canadian. Easy enough for me
put a trade add on here and see if anyone is interested, worth a shot. When you get 250 posts that is

Really all I am doing is trading Canadian coin at face value for silver at US spot prices. To the buyer there is zero difference between Canadian paper or currency, he can deposit both at the bank.

Of course the person swapping their silver for UK, Euro, or Canadian coin would either be going there on a trip or have family that lived there.
For example I have 20 pound in coin, how many silver mercs would someone swap for that? If you were going to the UK in the future, this is a great swap as the pound dominates the US dollar.
What is a fair conversion however?

Keep in mind I can sell UK, Aussie, Canadian, and Euro coin for close to face value on ebay. Incredible that all of these coins are more powerful than the US dollar. Soon the Mexican peso will overtake us.

I hoard the copper pennies, nickel nickels and silver dimes and quarters. I dump the zinc and cupro nickel at TCF.

The plated steel coins, and the nickel dimes and quarters I roll and save as a currency hedge against the doomed U.S. dollar.

I have over $400 in Canadian coins, from the cent through the Toonie, the bulk of them dimes. One of these days I'll visit Windsor and open a bank account and dump all the coins.

I know some Canadian banks will let U.S. citizens open an account. I just haven't looked into it that much yet.

And yes, Canadian coinage is much classier looking than our current third world banana republic looking junk.

I don't know about that, U.S. Mercury dimes, Walking Liberty half dollars are pretty classy looking coins.

But, then again they are not in circulation.

If I remember correctly, the casino charges to exchange currency. It's a better rate than the banks or duty free shops, but it's not free. But I honestly can't say for sure.

I actually want to keep my money in Canada in Canadian dollars, that's why I'm looking into opening a bank account.

I keep all the George VI stuff like a couple of other mentioned. All the rest gets chucked back except for the Dansco folders I have - keep one of each year in the best quality I can find. I almost have 1955-2010 complete in Canadian cents from U.S boxes.

I get about 100 canadian dimes or more per every $1k in US searched. I spend 'em when the counter spits 'em out, or if I re-roll, they go right back in.

I save my Canadian coins. I live in N C and will be visiting Niagara Fall for a vacation later on again this year. A Canadian Casino is only a 20 minute walk across the Border from my hotel room. Now I am up 2% on cash. I think I'll put an ad on Craigslist offering to buy Canadian Coins for 80 % of value at my flea market. We have a few coin dealers and I'll check there junk box and make an offer.

I'm not sure what its like in the US but here dealers charge a ridiculous premium for American coins which is why most Canadians do what has been suggested above, collect what we find in our change. Our coins are cheap for us, early 1900s large cents are like a buck a piece here in very nice condition but on your side of the border that price goes up significantly to like 5-10, shield pennies there are cheap here, they are 5$. That leaves us the choice of high prices, pocket change or ebay. I would suggest you talk to some of the Canadian collectors if you want to make sets of our circulating coins and do exchanges ... some of ours that you need for some of yours that we need. I am sure lots of collectors would be interested in trading circulated coins with you, I know I would ... and I agree with one of the above posted comments, we do have some interesting coinage here in the great white north, alot of it you never get to see down there except at dealers and ebay. I for one hate paying more than a coin is worth just to have it which usually means I go without. Trade, trade trade ... its a good way to make sets :)

My parents and sister went to Niagra Falls for the weekend. I gave them the six rolls of Canadian cents, two rolls of nickels, one roll of dimes, one roll of quarters, six loonies, and a toonie I've found this past year to exchange for two Canadian $10 bills and two of their $5 bills when they cross the border.
