JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Last week I described finding 20 silver half dollars (including 12 Walking Liberty, Franklin, and 1964 Kennedy coins) in three Brinks boxes. Because each box contained several silver coins, I mentioned that I hoped to tap into the same collection dump during my next visit to that bank.

I found one or two silver coins in each of the three Brinks boxes that I acquired there this week (including two more 1964 Kennedy half dollars). But I don't think they are from the same collection dump because I didn't find any 2017-D half dollars in these boxes. Regardless, I am pleased with the latest result: i.e., another ounce of silver.

I was able to buy my first bag of halves off a bank coin counter. $238.50 total. No silver, 1 foreign coin (so the machine should not be rejecting silver), 1 1974D juke box coin, and a 1982P no FG.

I have been on hiatus from searching coins for 3+ years because I moved to a rural area. It was nice to "play" again :-)

Looking for some advice. Got a bag tonight from my bank that included 660 NIFC 2002-2023. Along with 20 sets of 87 p&d. I plan on keeping the 87's but just curious what others do with large NIFC dumps?

This has been quite the week! I've found a nice number of silver half dollars three times -- each at a different bank. Today I acquired a Loomis roll at the branch of a local bank located in a nearby supermarket where previously I've found only one or two silver coins. I was pleased when I saw that the box contained a proof "ender" (which sometimes is a good sign). Then I found a 40% silver coin in the third roll (definitely a good sign). The 40% and 90% silver half dollars showed up regularly -- one roll even contained two silver half dollars. I found three 1964 Kennedy half dollars and a proof 2004-S coin (which also contains 90% silver). These coins were complemented by seven more half dollars that contain 40% silver.

Tomorrow I will wait out the Nor-easter bearing down on New England...
