Alright, I admit right now that my grading skills are focused primarily on nickels (because I like 'em) and now have to learn to grade on sumptun a bit softer, sigh... Can I get an MS-62 out of this?    |

To answer your question, yes, you should get at least MS62BN. Depending on what TPG you send it to, you may not get a higher grade because of the colour. I'd like to hear what others have to say. I think PCGS would go MS64BN (if in fact it is a 64) But I don't think ICCS would give it a 64 simply because it is mainly brown. ? |

ICCS does punish toning, sometimes unfairly. It is tough to determine a grade with oblique angle photographs - that is how ebay folks list and sell their coins to make them appear "nicer"... Can you take a photo with the camera lens roughly parallel to the surface of the coin? I would say 63 brown at PCGS. The hits on her neck keep it from higher. I have seen PCGS go up to 67 brown on the right coin.
Either 62 or 63 lustrous brown at ICCS. ICCS will not go over 63 on a brown coin.

@bosox ICCS will likely get the coin, I'd rather not deal with customs and all that jazz. A higher grade from an American company is not what I need, rather a consensus on grade, and a "sealed" plastic flip to keep it from the elements.  Kudos guys for your opinions, I appreciate it. |

Rarely, ICCS will grade a coin MS-64 Lustrous Brown. I have seen it with small George V cents and NFLD large cents. For your coin, I agree with bosox on MS-63 brown grade.

@SPP-Ottwaw Does PCGS have a "Lusterous Brown" designation? Sounds like an oxymoron. Would the "9 over 9" designation be put on the card from ICCS or would I have to pay for them to put that on the card?

PCGS - no, it would be called Brown
ICCS - yes, if it was obvious enough, and you asked them to do it. Sometime there is no charge, sometime they charge $2

I agree that once in a blue moon they have put one in a 64 brown holder. More often, you will find ICCS coins graded MS-60 to 63 brown that are undergraded. I bought this small bud in an old embossed ICCS holder graded MS-60 brown. It is now, IMO, correctly graded MS-63 brown in a PCGS holder.
