Hi,
I've been buying a few hammered coins lately and was refering to Spink 2012 page 255.
Can anyone help with the following re the picture below?
1 - Where it says "shilling" at the top of the picture can you confirm that 96.6 gr means grains?
2 - On the "sixpence", "threepence" etc, below, I first thought the "mm 7-113" refered to milimeters. But obviously not, as they are all the same.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks.

I think 'mm' may refer to 'mintmark'.

Yes indeed Sheencrofter"mm" is mintmark, where on page 247 you will see that mm 7 is a Greek Cross and mm 113 is a Sword, and yes the 95.6gr is also grains. I would however disagree with Coinage123 where he say SPINK is rubbish, I have been an avid user of SPINK for many many years, and I have found the info contained to be very good and UPTO DATE, I am not saying by any means it's the best reference book, but I honestly can't see how Coincraft 2000 edition would be any good when the values are 13 years out of date for a start, and I would imagine that more varieties of specific coin types have been found in the last 13 years, and they can't possibly be mentioned in a 13 year old book. Spink release a new reference catalogue every year, and many dealers use it as a reference point.

Thanks greniejim. That really helps a lot.
But I think you'll find it's Peter1234 who doesn't like Spink. Not Coinage 123.
But just for the record, I like Spink too.

Spink miss so many known/published varieties. For coins from 1797 try Collectors coins GB & Coincraft have far more detail on
the hammered issues.
