Dime quacker New Member Singapore 31 Posts	Posted 02/18/2013 08:33 am I got this coin in a lot and it had this layer of harderned glue on it. I removed it using a swiss army knife and this caused the circular shape on the reverse. Report this Post to the Staff

This is not a high-value coin but using a sharp tool to remove the glue risks additional damage. Soaking the coin in a solvent is usually a safer choice. I'd try water, then alcohol, then acetone in sequence as needed to soften and remove residues like this. The coin presumably has that different color because the area covered by the glue was protected from oxidation while the surrounding area developed tone. This will always be a risk when removing old coatings from coins. Gradewise I think this makes VG-8. Retail value for an undamaged example is maybe $10. Report this Post to the Staff
