Mint Error 1971 2 Pence? - Coin Community Forum

Coinage123 Valued Member United Kingdom 449 Posts	Posted 01/04/2014 3:57 pm Hello, I purchased a large coin collection which was most likely formed in the late 70's, early 80's. In it was this 2 pence piece. It is the same diameter as a normal 2p however it is significantly thinner. The coin also seems to be very weakly struck especially to the top half of the reverse and the edging on both sides of the coin. the weight of the left one is 7.10 grams whereas the coin in question weighs just 3.10g. It still looks like the original lustre is present. Any ideas whats gone on here? Report this Post to the Staff

thedollarman Pillar of the Community Canada 4911 Posts	Posted 01/04/2014 4:29 pm It is a thin planchette error which is one of the rarest errors and worth a great premium, That being said the weakness of the devices is because of the lack of metal the fill the die. What a beauty Regarding avenues for selling it- you can try here first since there are lots of folks who like errors, ebay can be a bit touch and go with error 2 pence pieces & I have see some not selling or going for very low prices at the end (and then there is their fees )......
