I bought an 1953 gold dollar for one pound 50 pence, way back in 1970, at a Manchester (U.K.) coin show, in 1970.
I still have it!

I bought a VF silver trtradrachm of Ptolemy 12th (c/- 90 BC), for $7. That was in about 1985.
I took a gamble on it, and it paid off.
It was just a black blob in a dealer's junk box, but the dealer suggested that may clean up quite well in a weak acid.
It turned out MUCH better than either of us had hoped.

not sure of it's my best best, but, picked up this PAIR of '58s for $219. sold one for $190 meaning I have a whopping $29 invested into my keeper.
