Nice high grade. From the date alone, I suspect a MS coin.
DP#4.
Identified as Haxby obverse 23 / reverse E25a (Dr. Haxby has a typo in one of his threads as also identifying this as E26a).
This coin is also confused with a similar re-cut 9 (Haxby E12).

Sigh....I wish that mine had that great detail in the 9..
My 5 looks like that,.. but the 9 is sitting on a bulge..(or the bulge is sitting on the 9)..and lacks that great detail..
Dying to see how the obverse looks...then we can compare them side by side..

Thank you all for your comments. The reason I posted this particular photo is because of the holder it is in. It is sitting in a NGC holder graded at VF35, which is probably close, perhaps just a hair low. The coin might stretch to EF. Doug (colonialtokens) hit on the reason, the holder identifies the variety as DP#2. There are many coins identified on TPG labels as DP#2 which are not. This one happened to be #4 but there are lesser 9/9's that show up also indicated as DP#2. Make sure you are looking at the coin to decide if it is actually what the holder says it is. The variety on pg 283 is also known to be in DP#2 holders by TPG's. The same goes for raw coins in 2x2's So, if you are out looking for a #4, make sure you are looking at #2's. No telling what you will find.

When I bought mine in the 80's and it was listed/described by Doug Robins as a DP #1 and ICCS graded it in the 90's as a DP #1.. ....so "what say the experts then and now..?"..BTW..mine is a DP #4.. I guess that in those days,..the different DP 9's had not been separated out for the books yet.. these are older pics.. You can see that the die on mine was about "to give up the ghost" from the d/c's and surface disruptions in mine.. Would still like to see the whole obverse and reverse of your beauty.. . .

Oh what a beauty DEVLEC! The easy way to tell if it's a DP9#4 is with the re punch 5. That way you can't go wrong

Thanks MG ..I always greatly appreciate your comments..
At that time ,..Doug Robins was considered "one of the few" experts back then on these high end rarities. He gave me a nice letter on it with all of the markers noted and exclaiming it as one of the best he had ever handled.. (nice touch)
But Doug had bigger "fish to fry" as he was also playing around with his 11 Dollar back then..
