Hi, I wanted some thoughts on the designer initials on this coin. To me it looks like it could be a die chip or it took a hit and is post mint damage, but I would like some other opinions. Thank you for the help!

Interesting. It maybe a die gouge? It seems to disappear behind the Eagle.

I've taken a closer look at the coin and there seems to be a cavity between the leg and the tail. The shield also looks to be pushed in. I don't known if this helps much but I would like to know why the coin is like this? I have drawn a line of the area I am talking about in the first picture of this reply. I also took a closer shot of the area in question from a different angle. I hope this helps. Thank you!

I agree. In Coops overlay pic there appears to be a hairline on the obverse that matches up.
