Rhodian Hemidrachm - Magistrate? - Coin Community Forum

Sap Moderator Australia 16895 Posts	Posted 11/11/2016 02:53 am I recently bought several small Greek silver coins from a local dealer. Among them was this little hemidrachm from Rhodes, circa 170-150 BC (Sear 5065). I don't have a magnifying glass in the house powerful enough to let me try to read the magistrate's name, so I put it on the scanner and cranked up the DPI to 2400. Here's the result: Now I can read the name clearly enough, or, well, almost. It appears to be LOANODWR, or something similar. Can anyone offer a clearer interpretation, or point me in the direction of a list of Rhodian coinage-magistrates I can search through? Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

I'm having a hard time finding another coin with a similar tail like like that on wildwinds. I do agree with biancasdad that it seems more like an alpha.
