I really love the history of ancients and really like the thrill of cleaning them myself. I don't do it often because other collecting interest take a priority for now, but I grab another lot to clean. I see a handful of Constantine's family and this looks like a good batch. 50 coins here a few should be nice.

What do you guys think? Will post updates on progress once these are in hand. If you see anything interesting from the picture feel free to point it out. I am a relatively beginner collector. On a scale of 1 being new to 10 being export I am probably a 3.

Thanks for looking and opinions.

I hope they come up well... to my untrained eye they look like all the normal candidates but given quite a bit of detail is visible already maybe you will have some decent grade coins underneath all that dirt.

Good luck ^^

Update 10-26-16

I got these a few days ago, but just had a chance to go through them. Surprisingly all seem to have some detail showing thru. I want to make the fun last, so I am cleaning in batches. I picked out the nices ones for the first batch and here are some before pics. These really have a lot showing thru.

I don't know if any of these will have enough legend left or sharp enough to ID

So these aren't working out so well. On most of these all the detail is on one side or the other. I don't know if any will be fully IDable. Some I should be able to figure out the emperor, but reverse type especially mint probably won't happen.

Update 11-11-16
So I started a new batch on these. I have been busy, with school semester coming to an end fast. Also, I got a 9 month old who is very interested, mostly in what they taste like, so haven't had much time to id these. Most don't show much legend due to small flans, but they have good detail.

The first coin on the top row is a Valentinian III that is RIC 2142 or 2143. It is an Emperor with Captive reverse.

Another one that I have had time to partly ID because it is easy is the last coin on the top row. It is a Constanople City commemorative with the origin story of rome on the back. It is missing metal in the middle so the wolf is missing its belly and Romulus and Remus are hard to see.

I didn't have either of these coins so I am happy to get new ones. I know the city commemoratives are pretty common (there Bicentennial quarter in my eyes) I also know the third on top row is a Constintinius II as Noble Ceaser, but haven't got past that.

I can try to post some pics if interested.
