Hi, in my last box of halves, I came across this 1979 half that someone punched a 1960 above IN GOD & 1980 above WE TRUST. The coin also looks like someone coated it in something that, at first, made me think it was a proof, but of course cannot be. Since the dates are 20 years apart I'd guess an anniversary of some kind. Might be for a business celebrating 20 years in business and given to customers. Those are my guesses.

My first thought was an anniversary gift of some kind.

I'm thinking, could this have been a way of recognizing the 20th anniversary of JFK's election? I know I've seen posts about these on the Where's George coin collecting forum.

I have found a ton of these. Most are gold plated or silver plated. I have both 1960-1980 and 1960-1985. They were sold to part "collectors" from their hard earned money. Here are some pics from another (non coin) forum from someone who has them in their original packaging.      |
