I just received this lovely piece in the mail from Ms. Snooba. It is a medallion for the RAM commemorating the decimalisation of Australian Currency in 1966. I am thrilled to be able to add this piece to my Australian Numismatic Collection. Thank you Snooba!
Although the RAM is named on the medal, it wasn't produced by them. It was actually minted by Stokes, a private token, badge and medal-making firm in Melbourne.
This piece is listed in the old Carlisle catalogue of Australian medals and medalets as number 1966/16, mintage 6000 in bronze, 3000 in silver.
This catalogue dates from 1983; Les Carlisle has just finished producing his long-awaited second edition of the catalogue. I've ordered a copy.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
Sap, you're full of magical information. Thank you! When the new catalogue comes in, might you share the tidbit of information on this medal? I would be grateful.
