I found a 1981 Lincoln Penny that weighs under 2 grams and looks pretty clearly plated under magnification. Couldn't find any information about it.

to the forum!

Even if it was copper plated zinc, it should weigh more than 2 grams. 2.5g to be exact.
Also, I don't believe it is possible to accurately tell if a coin is plated or not using only magnification.

Are you sure your scale is calibrated correctly, and can you post a picture of it on the scale with the weight?

It's got the relief of a 95% copper penny, so I'm pretty confident it's normal for the date

What does the reverse look like? Must be some reason it is underweight?

I had a friend weigh it. His scale might have been off. I'll get an accurate weight. Thank you
