The doubled part is falttened and shelf-like, and the "doubling" takes up part of the normal profile of the devices. Two sure signs that it's Machine Doubling. On a doubled die of the nature you're looking for there, the letters would be wider than normal, they would have notches at the sharp corners where the two corners were hubbed into the die next to one another, and the doubling would be a carbon copy of the normal letters. Great link Coppercoins! I've seen some of the varities in my collection, but assumed a lot of them were because of being in curculation/damage,etc. I'd better re-evaluted them. Thanks! A coin like this one, I wanted to be a doubled die sooo bad. But it is what it is and that must be Mechanical Doubling. Report this Post to the Staff
