my book was published in 87! I was looking on ebay at some walkers in(affordable) grades and thought that what I thought was good was selling for vg-fine has the standard dropped that much in the past 15 years(just getting back in after raising the kids)
yes I tend to agree with both of you. when I firt started collecting I had an older gentelman mentor me some and he allways drove home the point that(never accept anothers grade cartblanc. as beuty is in the ete of the beholder. as for the over gradeing this could turn many a new collecter away from the(hobby). as can the attitude of a coin dealer. who dismisses the needs of the "small" collecter infavor of the COIN INVESTOR who buys only the high end. especially when the dealers are the only show in town(or the reigon)
