Could be post mint damage, or a deteriorating die. Wouldn't be able to tell without close up of the area. Same with the D mint mark-need close up. Also please fix title to LMC. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/30/2020 4:22 pm The motto area is showing extreme die wear that happened to this die before this coin was struck. Not a doubled die. Why? Consider direction. What direction does die wear happen? To the closest rim for the devices. That is the area affected. So it is Die wear, not a doubled die.
