I just started looking at my Sacagawea dollars more closely and figured what the heck I'll see if I can collect all the dates and mint marks. (I already have 2008 and 2007in mint rolls). I started looking a prices from other years in rolls and proof and the 2003 were pretty high. I know one of you guys have the knowledge to explain to me why the Sac's in 2003 and a few other dates (proof 2002 and 2003) are so much more? PS this will help me out with the Sac coin video when I produce it later next year too  Thanks! Most modern coins are my weak point  |

mintage has a lot to do with it I actually think 05s cost the most in unc

Sacagaweas don't tend to get a lot of love on collectors forums. I happen to like them and have a full set (less the Cheerioes variety and 2008 which I will get shortly). I don't see in my pricing references where 2003s run any higher but there are very few great quality coins uncirculated from the Denver mint so MS-68 command a huge premium in any year. The 2005 P and D's are running $65 to $55 per 20 at APMEX but the 2003 P and D are $155 per 20 count. 2004 P and D BU rolls are about 150 too on other sites. 2006 D are high too. So the rolls really do not make sense with the mintage. I have also seen 2001-S proof rolls run over a grand. I'm just trying to understand why so much? Texastrade, thanks for the website. I, too, like Sacs. Ok. I admit it - that's the first step.
The prices, however, are very much a mystery. And seeing a list of mintages as daviscfad posted, just stirs up the soup even more.
The 2001-S proof is the "key". And for no particular reason - if you look at mintages. Of course, it is part of the 2001 proof set and those cost a fortune, so that probably explains the price. I track those on e-bay from time to time and the price is coming down for individual 2001-S's. A year ago, you really couldn't touch one for less than $60 and now you can pick one up for $40.
As far as the various P and D mintmarks. Shop around. Any inflated prices are artificial. A mintage of 2 million or 3 million is the same: way, way more than collectors want or need. Essentially, you should be able to get the P's and D's all at approximately the same price if you look around.
I know nothing about roll prices.

i think thats the reason 2001 cost so much is b/c of the sac I am going to have to look further into this

I could never figure out why the 2001-Proof goes for so much. The mintage is 3.2 mil , the 2007-Proof is the lowest at 2.2 mil.

Earlier this year, I bought a set of ANACS-PR 70 DCAM CERTIFIED Sacagawea dollars all from the San Francisco Mint,2000-2007, I would ask if anyone would know the value of these as I totally forgot I even had them, TILL I SAW THIS POST.I also like the Sacagawea dollar, there I said so, anyone have a clue?
