I have this 1985-d LMC with extra between the columns and at the tops and bottoms of the middle bays of the memorial, and die flow(?) between the lettering on epu and America. There is no DDR listing for that year. Is this from Machine Doubling and a worn die maybe? or...? Thank you again!
Probably older die polishing lines. The die scratches on open fields disappear quickly as they are on the open areas. Scratches near the devices last longer. Ones in a contain area last the longest. That is what you are seeing, the die scratches that are now aging. They are not a doubled die, just die scratches that are not normally flattening. Note the weakness on the 'FG' and the statue. That also tells me the die was polished more than twice already. They are what I call 'die events'.
